This long awaited tournament brings together the best international teams from around Europe, and you can feel the excitement in the air as the group stage edges nearer. With iconic stadiums and enthusiastic fans, this year is looking to be one to remember. So let BetBeast lead the way and give you the low down on who, what, where, when and how!

When is Euro 2024?

The UEFA Euro 2024 kicks off on Friday 14th June 2024.

Where and when will the final of the UEFA EURO 2024 be played?

Berlin’s Olympiastadion will host the final of the 24-team tournament, on Sunday 14th July 2024. The tournament has 51 games scheduled, all between June and July 2024.

How did Germany become the hosts?

Three-time winners Germany have been chosen to stage the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship 2024. The UEFA Executive Committee voted between Turkey and Germany, eventually settling on Germany, citing concerns about Turkey’s ‘lack of action plan in the area of human rights’. This will be the first major international tournament staged in Germany since the 2006 World Cup.

Who has qualified for EURO 2024?

Fifty-three competing teams kicked off the qualifying round for EURO 2024 in March 2023 by playing against each other for a spot in the main tournament. Having been divided into ten groups, seven groups of 5 and three groups of 6, each team played home and away matches against each other. The top two teams from each group qualified for EURO 2024. The remaining 3 slots will come from the UEFA Nations League play-offs.

The top 4 ranked teams from each league that did not qualify directly from the group stage will participate in a Play-off, which is made up of a Semifinal and Final format. These will be the final 3 teams to qualify for the next stage. All qualifying teams were then joined by Germany, who as hosts, qualified automatically. In December 2023, the teams were seeded into 6 groups in accordance with the overall European Qualifiers rankings.

The qualifying teams for the UEFA EURO 2024 are:

  • Group A: Germany, Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland
  • Group B: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania
  • Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England
  • Group D: Poland, Netherlands, Austria, France
  • Group E: Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine
  • Group F: Turkey, Georgia, Portugal, Czechia

How does the final tournament work?

Group Stage

Each team will play the other teams within their group. The group winners, runners-up and 4 of the teams that placed 3rd will advance to the round of 16.

Knockout Stage

In this knockout stage, the teams start in a round of 16, where teams play against who they have been paired with depending on which position they finished in their respective group.. Each match needs to end with a winner, and if they are tied by the end of the match, the winner is decided via an extra two periods of 15 minutes extra time added on, and if the match is still leveled after this, the match is decided by a penalty shoot-out. (This is bad news if you support England!).

The Finals

The winning team of each phase will then move onto the Quarterfinals, through to the Semi-finals, then finally onto the Final, where the world will be watching the two teams battle it out in Berlin for the Henri Delaunay Trophy and the honor of being crowned the UEFA EURO 2024 Champions.
